How to get into a Postgraduate course at a Medical College in India?

You can apply to 50 percent seats in medical colleges in the states where you are not domiciled.
Through the AIPGMEE/AIGPDEE, you can get into the seats available at Government colleges which are located in the states where you are not domiciled (except Jammu & Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh). You would be required to appear for the counselling conducted by the DGHS (Directorate General of Health Services) using your AIPGMEE/AIPGDEE scores.
You can apply to 50 percent seats in medical colleges in the state in which you are domiciled.
State-level and Government colleges reserve the remaining 50 percent of their seats for students from the state in which the college is located (domiciles).

You would need to take separate exams for many famous national level medical colleges.
Many national level medical/dental colleges such as AIIMS, JIPMER, NEIGRIHS etc. have their own entrance exams. You would be required to qualify their entrance exams for admission into these institutes.

You can apply directly to many private medical colleges.
You can apply directly to private medical colleges like CMC Vellore etc. Some of these colleges require you to take the AIPGMEE/AIPGDEE or State exams. Some even have their own entrance exams. Explore their websites directly for more information.
Management quotas in private medical colleges.
A certain percentage of the total seats (differs from state to state) in many private medical/dental colleges are filled under the management quota. The entrance requirements are less stringent through this quota, but the admissions and tuition fees are generally much higher compared to that paid by All India and State Quota students.
