MBA Entrance exam for participating institutions 

MAT (Management Aptitude Test) is a national level postgraduate management entrance test that is conducted by the AIMA (All India Management Association). It provides students with the opportunity to pursue an MBA in management and business institutes across the country. Most of the institutes that accept the MAT score for admission also accept the more popular CAT or XAT exams. So if you plan to take the CAT and the XAT, check the benefits of taking the MAT before deciding to spend time and energy on taking it.  

The MAT exam is generally held 4 times a year, in the months of February, May, September and December. The MAT can be attempted as a Paper Based Test or a Computer Based Test. The Paper Based Test is conducted on a single day during one session. Candidates who are appearing for the MAT Computer Based Test have the option of choosing the location, date and time as per which they wish to appear for the exam, subject to availability.

At many institutes, the MAT exam is generally considered as only the first phase of admission. Your admission into such postgraduate Management programs will be based on your MAT scores as well as other criterion such as your performance in the subsequent Personal Interviews, Group Discussions etc. The second phase of the admission process that takes place after you receive your MAT score differs from institute to institute. What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible for the MAT exam, you must have completed a Bachelor’s degree course in any field from a recognized university.

Candidates who are appearing for their final year exams (Bachelor’s degree) or awaiting results are also eligible to appear for the MAT exam as long as they can submit their final mark sheets before the specified date.

There is no minimum age criterion to appear for the MAT exam.

You will be allowed to select upto 5 institutes you wish to join in the application form.

How to apply?

You can register for the MAT online and offline. To apply, go to the MAT website:  http://apps.aima.in/matsept14.

After you complete the registration form, you will have to make the application fee payment. You can make the payment online through a Debit/Credit Card.

You can also make the payment through a Demand Draft by making a DD in favor of the ‘All India Management Association’ payable at Delhi from any Bank. You will have to enter the details of the DD while applying online through the above website.

Candidates who wish to apply offline can procure the application form and MAT bulletin from listed Nodal Centres of AIMA or from AIMA, New Delhi.  The list of nodal centers is available on the MAT website.

What is the pattern of the examination?

The MAT exam comprises of objective type questions in the multiple choice format.

The total duration of the MAT exam is 2½ hours.

The MAT exam consists of a total of 200 objective type questions.

The MAT exam comprises of the following 5 sections (40 questions each): Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning and Indian and Global Environment.

Your results will be published on the MAT website in due time. MAT scores are valid for a maximum period of up to 1 year.
