What is the pattern of the examination?

The CET Karnataka is an objective type exam in the multiple choice format. There are four options for every question with only one right answer. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Each question will carry one mark.

The CET is conducted in four different sessions for four different subjects. In 2014, Biology and Mathematics will be  held in the two sessions on the first day and Chemistry and Physics will be held in the two sessions on the next day. The duration of each paper will be 80 minutes and each paper will be of 60 marks.

Your rank will be determined purely on merit. If you’re a student who has applied for the Medical and Dental courses, then your rank will be determined only on the basis of your PCB marks in the CET.

In the case of Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy Courses, your rank will be determined by equally considering your PCB marks in the qualifying examinations as well as your PCB marks in the CET.

In the case of Engineering and Technology courses, your rank will be determined by taking into account your CET as well as 12th PCM results in equal proportions.

The ranks will be published and be put on display at the CET examination centers and will also be uploaded at the KEA website - http://kea.kar.nic.in

Once your rank is published, you will have to submit your documents with the KEA for verification. This will include your 10th and 12th mark sheets or equivalents, birth certificate and other applicable documents.

What do you do after you get your results?

The engineering counseling is conducted for all the State Quota seats (100%) in Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges in Karnataka and around 45% State Quota seats in Private Engineering Colleges in Karnataka. All these seats are reserved for Karnataka State Domiciles.

Admissions into the remaining seats in private engineering colleges are not conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority or KEA. Out of the remaining seats in Karnataka Private Engineering Colleges, around 35% seats are allotted through the COMED – K and around 20% seats are allotted under the Management Quota. Contact the college directly for admission under the management quota.

The medical counseling is conducted for 85% of the total seats in Government and Government Aided Medical and Dental colleges in Karnataka.

Admissions into the remaining 15% seats in Government and Government Aided Medical and Dental colleges in Karnataka are conducted by the DGHS under the ‘All India Quota’ on the basis of AIPMT results through the following website: http://www.mcc.nic.in/mccres/HomePage.aspx#.

Additionally the counseling will also be conducted for 40% MBBS seats in Private Medical Colleges in Karnataka and 35% BDS seats in Private Dental Colleges in Karnataka.

Admissions into the remaining MBBS and BDS seats in Private Medical/Dental Colleges of Karnataka is conducted on the basis of the COMED – K exam.

Your goal is to get admission in a suitable course at a suitable college. The KCET test result becomes the basis for the admission.

Once the results are announced, you will have to participate in an online counseling procedure which is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority or KEA.

All candidates that have their name in the merit/rank list will have to appear for document verification at specified verification centers.

The time, venue and date of the document verification as per your category will be mentioned on the KEA website. Make sure you reach the specified location on time with original and certified copies of all your documents including your Admit Card, Class 10th and 12th mark sheets etc.

Once your documents are verified, you will be provided with a verification slip and a user ID and password which you can use to create an account on the KEA website and lock your choices.

Go to the KEA website (http://kea.kar.nic.in) and make your choices.

You will have to select the courses and colleges you wish to join in order of preference. Mark your choices/preferences based on two main factors:

1. The colleges and courses you seek.

2. The colleges and courses that are likely to admit you based on your rank. Go through the ranks that were admitted by a particular college last year for your course. You can obtain the ranks of last year from the counseling website.

Base your decision on these two factors and make multiple choices to ensure that you receive an admission. There is no limit on the number of choices you can submit.

It’s equally important to rank your choices correctly. The highest level choice with an available seat will be allotted to you.

Once the results are out and you’re allotted a seat, you will need to report to the counseling center/institute in due time and submit the admission fee to confirm your seat or you can choose to appear for the next round of counseling.
