Haryana Engineering and Architecture Admissions

Students are admitted into Engineering colleges in Haryana on the basis of their marks in the JEE (Main) and their marks in the class 12 exams. Haryana does not have its own Engineering entrance exam.

Get an Overview of the Engineering Admissions in India.

Admissions take place through an online counseling procedure that is conducted every year by the ‘Haryana State Technical Education Society’ or the HSTES. Architecture admissions also take place through this online counseling on the basis of the scores of students in the NATA.

For admission into the B.E/B.Tech courses, 60% weightage is given to a candidate’s score in JEE (Main) and 40% weightage is given to his/her scores in the Class 12th or equivalent examinations.

For admission into the B.Arch courses, 50% weightage is given to a candidate’s NATA score and 50% weightage is given to his/her score in the Class 12th or equivalent examinations.

The HSTES conducts this counseling in 2 rounds. The first round is for all students and has reservations for all categories. In the second round of counseling, some categories are merged with others. If seats are left vacant even after the second round of counseling, the HSTES allows the institutes to conduct counseling individually on the basis of the marks of students in the JEE (Main).

However, if a situation arises where seats are left vacant even after individual counseling on the basis of the JEE (Main), colleges are allowed to admit students on the basis of their Class 12th marks irrespective of whether they appeared for the JEE (Main) or not.

Keep in mind that admissions into the Biotechnology courses are conducted solely on the basis of a candidate’s JEE (Main) marks and no weightage is given to his/her Class 12th marks. However, if seats are left vacant after the counseling, remaining seats are filled by candidates who have only studied Biology and not appeared for the JEE (Main). Their Class 12th marks in Physics, Biology and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Computer Science will be considered.

What percentage of seats is the counseling conducted for?

The counseling is conducted for all the seats (100%) in Government and Govt. Aided Colleges as well as for 75% of the total seats in Private Colleges in Haryana.

Keep in mind that counseling for the rest of the 25% of seats in private colleges is not conducted through the HSTES. Details for allocation of seats under this category can be found on the websites of these institutions and private colleges.

Out of the total seats that are available for HSTES counseling in any college, 15% are reserved for candidates under the ‘All India Category’ or the AIC and 85% of the seats are reserved under the ‘State Quota’ or the SQ for Haryana Domiciles.

Additionally, from the 85% seats that are reserved under the State Quota, 30% are reserved for candidates that come under the ‘Haryana Open General Category’ or the HOGC and 70% of the seats are divided amongst candidates from different reserved categories including SC, OBC etc.

What are the eligibility criteria to apply for the counseling?

For admission into the B.E/B.Tech courses, you would need to have passed your Class 12th or equivalent examinations with Physics, Math and either one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Computer Science as your main subjects with a minimum aggregate percentage of 45% (40% for SC candidates).

For admission into the B.E/B.Tech in Biotechnology courses, you would need to have passed your Class 12th or equivalent examinations with Physics, Biology/Math and either one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/ /Computer Science as your main subjects with a minimum aggregate percentage of 45% (40% for SC candidates).

For admission into the B.Arch courses, you should have passed your Class 12th with Math as a compulsory subject. Alternatively, you will also be eligible if you have completed a 10+3 Diploma with Math or have completed an IB Diploma with Math as a subject after 10 years of schooling. You should have an aggregate percentage of not less than 50% (45% for SC candidates) in your qualifying examinations and you should have scored a minimum of 40% in your NATA.

Candidates who are appearing for their Class 12th or equivalent examinations in the same year as the counseling are also eligible to apply. However, they should submit their final mark sheets at the time of document verification or their admission will be cancelled.

What is the counseling procedure?

To apply for the online counseling procedure, you will need to register yourself on the online counseling website: http://www.tehadmissions.gov.in/

To register, you will need to enter information about yourself on the website, including details about your course, your Date of Birth, Roll Number etc.

Once you’ve registered, you will need to create a User ID and Password. This User ID and Password will be used by you to log on this website and apply for the counseling procedure.

To complete your registration, you will also need to make the counseling fee payment. You can choose to pay online or through the other payment options mentioned on the website.

After you’ve confirmed your registration details and made the payment, you will need to choose the colleges you wish to apply to. The options you can choose from will be available to you on the website. You will only be able to see the seats you’re eligible for. This will depend on your reservation category and other details.

It can be helpful to go through the JEE (Main)/NATA rankings that were accepted by a particular college last year. This will give you an idea about the reputation of the college and whether you stand a genuine chance of getting in or not. The details of previous years’ rankings are mentioned on the website.

You will have to make priority – wise choices where your first choice will be your first preference. It is ideal to apply to as many colleges you’re eligible for so as to improve your chances of getting a seat in a good college.

You will have to confirm/lock your choices in due time.

Once the allotment results are out, log on to the website and see whether you’ve been allotted a seat or not. In case you’ve been allotted a seat, you will see a ‘Provisional Allotment Letter’ from the institute/college online.

You will have to print this and take it to the institute/college in person along with copies and originals of all your important documents. You will also need to take a fee deposit equal to the first semester fees of the institute to confirm your admission. The duration by which you will need to report to the institute/college will be mentioned in the Provisional Allotment Letter.

When you report to the college, your documents will be verified online. If your documents are found to be correct, then you will be provided with a ‘Provisional Admission Slip’. You will then have to submit the fee deposit and hence confirm your seat.

In case your documents are found to be incomplete, you will receive a ‘Deficiency Letter’ which will mention the time – frame within which you will have to report to the college with complete documents. If you fail to do so, then your allotment will be cancelled.

If you choose to upgrade your seat to a better college, you will have to visit the above mentioned website and apply for the 2nd counseling. Keep in mind that in case you are allotted a seat in the 2nd counseling, the seat allotted to you in the 1st counseling will automatically be cancelled.
