Chandigarh does not have its own medical entrance examination. Students are admitted in Medical colleges in Chandigarh on the basis of their results in the AIPMT (All India Pre Medical Test).
For the BHMS course, students are admitted on the basis of their results in the CET conducted by the Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Admissions into the MBBS/BDS/BHMS/BAMS courses take place through an offline counseling procedure that is conducted every year by the Government Medical College, Sector 32, Chandigarh.
The Government Medical College conducts this counseling in 2 rounds. The first round is for all students and has reservations for all categories. The second round of counseling is conducted for seats that are left vacant after the first round.

What percentage of seats is the counseling conducted for?
The counseling is conducted for the 85% ‘State Quota’ seats at the Government Medical College, Chandigarh (MBBS course) as well as for all the available seats at the Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences (BDS course), the Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College (BAMS course) and the Homeopathic Medical College (BHMS course).
All seats (except the 15% All India Quota seats) will be divided amongst different reserved categories as per the ongoing reservation norms of the Government of Chandigarh.
Admissions into the remaining 15% seats in the Government Medical College, Chandigarh are conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services, Govt. of India through a centralized counseling procedure under the ‘All India Quota’ on the basis of AIPMT results through the following website: http://www.mcc.nic.in/mccres/HomePage.aspx#. Candidates from across the country are eligible for these seats.
Approximately 15% seats in all medical colleges in Chandigarh (except the Government Medical College), are reserved for NRI candidates.
What are the eligibility criteria to apply for the counseling?
To be considered for admission for the ‘State Quota’ seats, you should have passed your Class 12th examination from a school situated in the Union Territory of Chandigarh as a regular student.
Wards of serving Defense Personnel or ex – servicemen are exempt from the above condition.
The 15% ‘All India Quota’ seats in the Government Medical College, Chandigarh are open for candidates from across the country.
You should not be less than 17 years of age as on the 31st of December of the year of the counseling.
You should have passed your Class 12th examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology as your main subjects. Your aggregate percentage in these 3 subjects should be not less than 50% (45% for PH candidates and 40% for SC candidates). Additionally, you should have passed each of these 3 subjects individually along with English.
Alternatively, you will be eligible for the counseling if you have passed any other examinations which, in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the 10+2 (Medical Group) of an Indian University/Board taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology including practical test in each of these subjects with the required percentage of marks.
To be eligible for admissions into the MBBS/BDS/BAMS course, you should have scored not less than 50% in the AIPMT (45% for PH candidates and 40% for SC candidates).
For the BHMS course, you should have qualified in the CET conducted by the Panjab University, Chandigarh to be eligible for admission.
What is the counseling procedure?
Once the results are announced, you will participate in an offline counseling procedure which will be conducted by the ‘Government Medical College, Chandigarh’ at its premises.
To apply for the counseling, you will need to procure the brochure and application as per the details available in the following website: www.gmch.gov.in. In 2014, the application forms and prospectus were available between 3rd June to 15th June 2014. The last date of submitting the forms was 17.6.2014.
You will need to print the application form that applies to your course and college, i.e. MBBS/BDS/BHMS/BAMS.
Fill the application form, paste your photograph, sign the form and get it attested. You will also need to get a Demand Draft made for the specified amount in favor of the ‘Coordinator, Centralized Medical Admissions’. The Demand Draft has to be payable at Chandigarh.
Send the completed application form along with the Demand Draft and self – attested copies of all your documents (including mark sheets, admit card for AIPMT/CET etc.) through registered/speed post at the following address:

The counseling will be conducted in the ‘Auditorium, Sarai Building’ at the Government Medical College, Chandigarh on a specified date.
You will need to reach the specified venue on the day of the counseling along with originals and copies of all your documents and the Bank Draft towards the ‘Admission Fee’ (amount specified in the brochure). For the MBBS course, you will have to submit the admission fee in cash.
The Bank Draft (payable at Chandigarh), towards the ‘Admission Fee’ for the BDS course has to be made for the specified amount in favor of the Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
You will not be eligible for admission into a college if you do not report for the counseling personally.
On the day of the counseling, you will be considered for admission for the course you have applied for on the basis of your AIPMT score (CET for BHMS).
As there is only one college per medical course in Chandigarh, there are no choices with regards to colleges that candidates can make.
In case you’re allotted a seat in a college, you will need to submit your documents in original and also submit your admission fee in full (Bank Draft/Cash) immediately at the counseling venue itself. Candidates who fail to do this will not be considered eligible for admission.
You will have to reach the college/institute in which you’ve been allotted a seat within the specified duration to confirm your admission.
A second round of counseling will be conducted for seats that are left vacant after the first round.
