AIIMS – MBBS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences – MBBS) is a National level medical entrance examination conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for admission into the MBBS course offered by it and 6 other AIIMS institutes in Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Rishikesh, Raipur and Bhubaneswar.
The MBBS course offered by AIIMS is a 5½ year course and includes a compulsory one year internship. Candidates are admitted into this course on the basis of their scores in the AIIMS – MBBS entrance examination. It is considered to be one of the best Medical courses in the country and the entrance exam is very competitive and is attempted by thousands of candidates annually.
The examination is held in 18 cities across the country including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru , Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna and Raipur.
Out of the total 72 (+ 1 for foreign nationals) seats in AIIMS, New Delhi, 11 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Castes, 5 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, 19 seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes and 37 seats are reserved for the General Category.
The AIIMS institutes in Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Rishikesh, Raipur and Bhubaneswar, all offer 100 seats for the MBBS course. Out of these 100 seats, 15% will be reserved for Scheduled Castes, 7.5% will be reserved for Scheduled Tribes, and 27% will be reserved for Other Backward Classes. Subject to availability of seats, 3% seats are reserved for orthopedic Physically Handicapped candidates in all AIIMS institutes.

What are the eligibility criteria?
To be eligible for the AIIMS – MBBS examination, you should be an Indian National. You will also be eligible for this examination if you’re an Overseas Citizen of India, provided that you can submit the proof required.
You should not be less than 17 years of age as on the 31st of December of the year of admission.
You should have passed your Class 12th exam or its equivalents from a recognized board or university with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as your main subjects.
The minimum aggregate percentage required in the 4 main subjects (English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology) should not be less than 60% for General and OBC candidates and not less than 50% for SC and ST candidates.
Candidates who are appearing for their Class 12th exams in the same year as the AIIMS – MBBS exam are also eligible provided that they can submit their Class 12th final mark sheets before the specified date.

How to apply?
You can only apply for the AIIMS – MBBS online.

Before you start filling in the application form, make sure you have scanned copies of your photograph and signature ready to be uploaded in your computer.
In the application form, you would need to mention your preference regarding the six AIIMS institutes apart from AIIMS, New Delhi.
You will also have to specify whether you wish to appear for the examination in the online mode or the offline mode. You can only attempt the examination in the online mode if there are enough candidates opting to attempt the test in the online mode from your designated center.
Once you’ve filled the form and uploaded your photograph and signature, you will need to make the payment.
You can pay for the application form online through credit/debit card or in the designated bank through a challan.
To pay through a bank challan, you will need to generate and print the challan during the application process and take it to the designated bank and make the payment. Keep in mind that the challan can only be deposited after a minimum of one day after it’s generation.
You will be notified by the institute through SMS/E – mail upon successful online registration.
If the status of a candidate’s Application Registration No. / Admit Card is not available on website by the specified date, he/she should immediately write to the Asst. Controller of Examinations, AIIMS, New Delhi -110 029 along with full particulars of the Registration of the application form.

What is the pattern of the examination?
The entrance examination is conducted in an Online mode as well as in an Offline Mode (Pen and Paper).
The AIIMS – MBBS examination comprises of a single paper of 200 marks (1 mark per question).
The duration of the paper is 3½ hours.
There is no prescribed syllabus for the AIIMS – MBBS examination and the general standard of the paper will be that of the 12th class.
The paper will comprise of objective type questions in the multiple choice and reason – assertion type format from Physics (60 questions), Chemistry (60 questions), Biology (60 questions) and General Knowledge (20 questions).
Please do not attempt the questions you do not know the answers to as there will be negative marking. 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer and 1/3rd marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
For admission into the MBBS course, you should not have scored less than 50% in the AIIMS – MBBS entrance examination. This minimum requirement is relaxed up to 45% for OBC candidates and up to 40% for SC/ST candidates. Please note that this is the minimum percentage required to be considered for admission and does not guarantee you a seat in any of the AIIMS institutes.
Separate merit lists will be created for candidates from different reservation categories.
The list of candidates who qualify for admission will be posted on the websites of the institute. . They will have to appear for the counseling in due time with originals and copies of all the required documents.
The selected candidates will have to pass a medical examination conducted by a board set up by the institute. Candidates who are found to be medically unfit in this examination will not be admitted and the next candidate in the merit list will be considered for admission.

What do you do after you get your results?
Your goal is to get admission in a suitable course at a suitable college. The AIIMS entrance test result becomes the basis for the admission.
Once the results are announced, you will participate in an offline counseling procedure which is conducted by ‘AIIMS, Delhi’.
You will not be eligible for admission into a college if you do not report for the counseling personally.
Before you report for the counseling, make sure you research in detail about the various AIIMS institutes you can join through this counseling procedure. You should be clear about your preferred choices.
The counseling will be conducted at the AIIMS, Delhi Campus on the specified date.
You will need to reach the above mentioned venue on the day of counseling. Reach the venue in time along with originals and copies of all your important documents for verification including your Admit Card, Call Letter, Mark Sheets, and Proof of Date of Birth etc.
Once you reach the venue and the counseling begins, you will need to select the course and college you wish to join out of the ones that are available for you at that point of time.
You must reach the college/institute in which you’ve been granted admission within the specified duration so as to confirm your seat.
The admission will only be considered as final once you have deposited your documents, paid the admission fees and once you have been certified as medically fit in the subsequent medical examination.

What are the prospects?
AIIMS – MBBS entrance examination is one of the toughest entrance examinations in the country. This is not only due to the high standard of academic studies provided by the institute but also due to the vast number of candidates appearing for the exam compared to a very small number of available seats.
