What is the pattern of the examination?

The WBJEEM consists of 4 different subject papers. These 4 subject papers are Physics, Math, Chemistry and Biological Sciences.

The duration of the Math and Biological Sciences papers is 2 hours as both are 100 mark papers. The duration of the Chemistry and Physics papers is 1½ hours as both are 75 mark papers.

To pursue courses in Engineering and Technology, you will need to appear for the Physics, Math and Chemistry papers. Such candidates fall into the ‘E’ category.

To pursue courses in Medicine and Dentistry, you will need to appear for the Physics, Chemistry and Biological Sciences papers. Such candidates fall into the ‘M’ category.

You can also choose to attempt all the 4 subject papers, i.e. Physics, Math, Chemistry and Biological Sciences. Such candidates fall into the ‘C’ category.

For courses in Pharmacy at all universities except the Jadavpur University, you can be from either of 3 categories of candidates, i.e. E, M or C. However, to pursue a Pharmacy course at the Jadavpur University, you will need to attempt the Math paper, and therefore can only be from the E or C category of candidates.

All the papers will comprise of objective type questions in the multiple – choice format with 4 options for each question. The questions will be divided into the following categories:

Subject

Category 1

Category 2

Category 3

It is advisable to not attempt questions you do not know the answers to in Category 1 and 2 as 33.33% of the total marks allotted for that question will be deducted for every wrong answer.

In the Category 3 questions, more than one option might be correct for a single answer. You will be awarded 2 marks only if you mark all the right options for that question in the answer sheet. In case of an incorrect response, no marks will be awarded. There will be no negative marking for such questions.

In the Category 3 questions, if you give a partially correct response (without any incorrect markings), the marks you will be awarded for that question = 2 X (no of correct responses) / total no of correct options.

Your result will be published online. There will be separate merit lists for Engineering, Medicine and Pharmacy (not applicable to Jadavpur University).

Your admission will be based on your scores in the WBJEEM. Admissions will be provided through subsequent rounds of counseling.

To be eligible for admission into courses in Medicine, you should have scored not less than 50% on an aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biological Sciences in the WBJEEM. For OBC candidates this requirement is 45% and for SC/ST candidates, this requirement is 40%.

What do after you get your results?

Once your results are announced, you will have to participate in an online counseling procedure to enroll yourself in a course offered by a particular college/institute. It will be conducted by the ‘West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board’.

The engineering counseling is conducted for all the State Quota seats (100%) in Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges in West Bengal and 80% - 90% State Quota seats in Private Engineering Colleges in West Bengal.

Admissions into the remaining seats in private engineering colleges are not conducted by the WBJEEB. Contact the college directly for admissions under this category.

The medical counseling is conducted for 85% State Quota seats in Government, Government Aided and Private Medical Colleges in West Bengal.

Admissions into the remaining 15% seats in Medical colleges in West Bengal are conducted by the DGHS under the ‘All India Quota’ on the basis of AIPMT results through the following website: http://www.mcc.nic.in/mccres/HomePage.aspx#.

Keep in mind that some private medical colleges in West Bengal do not allot seats under the ‘All India Quota’ category.

Additionally, some also allot seats through the ‘Management Quota’. Visit the CEE website in due time to know in detail about the seat availability in private medical colleges in West Bengal.

The counseling (engineering /medicine) will be conducted on the basis of the preferences/choices you make with regards to the course you wish to pursue once the online counseling procedure begins. The admissions will be based on your rank in the WBJEE examination.

Once you’re allotted a seat, you will need to first report to the reporting center and get your documents verified and then report at the institute in due time and submit the admission fee to confirm your seat.
