Tripura – JEE

State level entrance examination , primarily for students who belong to Tripura and want to join courses in the field of Engineering, Technology, Medicine, Fisheries, Veterinary and Agriculture.


The Tripura – Joint Entrance Examination (Tripura – JEE) is a State level entrance examination conducted by the Tripura Board of Joint Entrance Examinations (TBJEE) that provides students with the opportunity to join various courses such as Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Agriculture, Veterinary and Fisheries.

The entrance examination is generally conducted at the end of April every year in various cities including Agartala, Udaipur, Kailashahar and Dharmanagar. It is the most important State level examination in Tripura and most colleges in Tripura admit students on the basis of their scores in the Tripura – JEE.

What are the eligibility criteria?

You must be an Indian citizen and a permanent resident of Tripura.
Either you or your parents must be residing in Tripura for a continuous period of 10 years immediately prior to the date of applying for the entrance examination.

You should have passed your Class 12th exams or its equivalents from the Tripura Board of Secondary Education or any other recognized board or university in India.

Candidates who have appeared or are going to appear for their Class 12th exams or equivalents in the same year as the Tripura – JEE are also eligible provided that they can submit their final mark sheets before the specified date.

If you want to join courses in the field of Engineering and Technology, then your main subjects in the Class 12th should be Physics, Chemistry and Math. If you want to join courses in the field of medicine, agriculture, veterinary and fisheries, then your main subjects in the Class 12th should be Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Children of All India Services Officers born in Manipur – Tripura cadre and the children of the employees of the State Government posted outside Tripura will also be considered eligible for the examination.

You will also be eligible for the Tripura – JEE even if you’re not a permanent resident of Tripura provided that you are appearing/ have passed your Class 12th exams from an institution in Tripura and either one of your parents is an Officer working with Govt. of Tripura or the Central Govt. since the past 3 years (continuous).

Children of Ex – servicemen will be considered eligible for the entrance examination if either you or your parents have been staying in Tripura for a continuous period of 5 years immediately prior to the date of application provided that you are appearing/have passed your Class 12th exam or its equivalents from any recognized board or university in India.

Children of serving Defense personnel hailing from Tripura will be considered eligible for the Tripura – JEE if they have been residing in Tripura for a continuous period of 5 years immediately prior to the date of application and if they completed or are due to appear for their Class 12th exams in the same year as the Tripura – JEE, from an institution in Tripura.

Or you can procure the forms and brochures from the office of the Tripura Board of Joint Entrance Examinations, Gurkhabasti or from Care Taker Unit, Directorate of Higher Education, Old Secretariat Building, Akhaura Road, Agartala.

The application forms and the brochure are also available at the campuses of institutions such as: Govt. Degree College, Dharmanagar, R.K. Mahavidyalaya, Kailashahar, D.D. Memorial College, Khowai, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College, Belonia, and N.S. Mahavidyalaya, Udaipur.

What is the pattern of the examination?

The Tripura – JEE comprises 4 different subject papers of 100 marks each. These 4 subjects are Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Math. The Duration of each paper is 2 hours.

Depending on your desired course, you will only have to attempt any 3 out of these 4 papers. So if you want to get into Engineering, you will attempt Physics, Math and Chemistry (Group – A). But if you want to pursue a course in the field of medicine, agriculture, fisheries and veterinary, then you will attempt Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Group – B).

You can also choose to attempt all four exams, i.e. Physics, Math, Chemistry and Biology (Group – C).

In the year 2013, the entrance exam was conducted on two consecutive days. The first day was compulsory for all candidates as it included the Physics (11.00 A.M – 1.00 P.M) and Chemistry (2.00 P.M – 4.00 P.M) Exams. The second day included the Math (11.00 A.M – 1.00 P.M) and Biology (2.00 P.M – 4.00 P.M) exams.

The questions in each of the question papers will be objective type in the multiple choice format. There is no negative marking. 

You will be admitted into colleges purely based on merit and your performance in the Tripura – JEE.

Your admissions will be done through several rounds of counseling. You will be allotted a seat in a particular college provided that you meet the eligibility criteria for that particular course/college as well.

What are the prospects?

The majority of the colleges and universities in Tripura accept students on the basis of their scores in this entrance examination. Candidates get the opportunity to join the courses offered by the various colleges in Tripura in the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Technology, Fisheries, Veterinary and Agriculture.
