Rajasthan PET Engineering Entrance

State level entrance examination, primarily for students who belong to Rajasthan and want to join courses in the field of Engineering offered by colleges and institutes in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan PET (Pre Engineering Test) or RPET is a State level entrance examination conducted by the Board of Technical Education, Rajasthan that provide students with the opportunity to join various courses in the field of Engineering offered by colleges in Rajasthan.

The entrance examination is generally conducted in the month of May every year in various cities across Rajasthan including Ajmer, Alwar, Banswara, Barmer, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Churu, Hindaun City, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Kota, Pilani, Sikar, Sirohi, Sri Ganganagar, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk and Udaipur. It is the most important State level entrance examination for students who wish to pursue Engineering in Rajasthan.

Out of the total seats in an engineering college in Rajasthan, 16% of the seats are reserved for SC candidates, 12% seats are reserved for ST candidates, 21% seats are reserved for OBC candidates (Non – Creamy Layer) and 1% of the seats are reserved for SBC candidates (Non – Creamy Layer).

Please note that 15% of the seats in Private Unaided Engineering Institutions and Self – Financed Courses in Govt. Aided Engineering Institutions of Rajasthan are reserved for candidates who are not State Domiciles of Rajasthan. Such candidates need not appear for the RPET as they will be admitted on the basis of their scores in the JEE (Main).

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible for the Rajasthan Pre Engineering Test (RPET), you should not be more than 23 years of age. This upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST/PH candidates.

To appear for the RPET, you will need to be a ‘Rajasthan Domicile’. To be considered as an eligible Rajasthan domicile, you should meet any of the following conditions:

1. Either you or your parents are bonafide residents of Rajasthan.
2. You have passed your Class 10th, 11th and 12th from a recognized institution in Rajasthan.
3. Your Father or Mother are serving/retired employees of the Government of Rajasthan.
4. Your Father or Mother have been employed since the past 3 years by a university in Rajasthan or by the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan or by a Govt. aided engineering college in Rajasthan.
5. Your Father or Mother are employees of the Central Government or Institutions of the Central Government serving in Rajasthan as on the date of application.
6. Your Father or Mother are of Rajasthan origin and have been serving for a minimum period of 3 years in the Central Government/Defense Services/Public Sector Undertakings/National Institutes of Govt. of India as on the date of application.

You should have passed your Class 12th examinations or its equivalents with Physics and Math and either one of Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Computer Science as your main subjects. Your minimum aggregate percentage in these 3 main subjects should not be less than 45% (40% for SC/ST/OBC/SBC candidates).

Candidates who are appearing for their Class 12th examinations are also eligible to apply and appear for the RPET, provided that they can submit their final mark sheets before the specified date.

Additionally, you should be deemed as ‘Medically Fit’ by a registered medical practitioner as per the standards mentioned in the information brochure.

Keep in mind that the many deemed and private universities like BITS (Pilani) and MNIT (Jaipur) have their own eligibility criteria for admissions into their undergraduate engineering courses.

How to apply?

You can only apply for the RPET online.

Online application forms are available on the following websites: http://techedu.rajasthan.gov.in/RPET/RPET.htm and http://www.rpetexam.com/.

To apply for the RPET, you will first have to deposit the application fee at an e – Mitra/CSK kiosk center authorized by the Government of Rajasthan.

Once you deposit the fee, the kiosk will issue a receipt containing a unique 16 digit token number. Keep this receipt/token number safely as it will be used during the application process.

Before you start filling in the application form, you should keep scanned copies of your photograph and signature ready in your computer to be uploaded online.

Access the application form using the 16 digit token number and fill in the form and upload your signature and photograph. Submit the application form online.

Take a print out of the submitted application form and send it along with attested copies of other important documents including your mark sheets etc. through registered/speed post at the following address:

You admit/admission cards will be uploaded online in due time. No admit cards will be sent to you through post.

What is the pattern of the examination?

The exam will contain 120 objective type questions in the multiple choice format. There will be 40 questions each from Physics, Chemistry and Math.

Each question will have four options with only one being correct.

The duration of the exam is 3 hours.

It is advisable to attempt as many questions as possible as there is no negative marking.

Your admissions will be based only on your performance in the RPET.

A ‘Cut off Percentage’ will be decided by the Centralized Admission Coordination Committee (CACC) before the declaration of the result. Any candidate who scores below this cut off percentage will not be eligible for admission.

There will be a relaxation of 5% in the cut off percentage for SC/ST candidates.

The results and merit list will be announced on the RPET website. You should ideally receive your mark sheet through post within 2 weeks of the publication of the result.

What are the prospects?

The RPET (Rajasthan Pre Engineering Test) is the most important state level entrance examination for engineering aspirants in Rajasthan. It provides students with the opportunity to pursue courses in various fields of Engineering.

What do after you get your results?

Once your results are announced, you will have to participate in a counseling procedure to enroll yourself in a course.

The engineering counseling is conducted for all the State Quota seats (100%) in Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges in Rajasthan and 85% State Quota seats in Private Engineering Colleges in Rajasthan (with exceptions).

Admissions into the remaining 15% seats are not conducted by the Board of Technical Education, Rajasthan. Contact the college directly for admissions under this category.

The counseling will be conducted on the basis of the preferences/choices you give in the ‘option form’ that you’re required to fill for the purpose of admission after your result has been declared. The admissions will be carried out on the basis of merit through a computerized system.

Once you’re allotted a seat, you will need to report to the institute in due time and get your documents verified as well as submit the admission fee to confirm your seat.
