Punjab Engineering And Architecture Admissions

Students are admitted into Engineering colleges in Punjab on the basis of their scores in the JEE (Main). Punjab does not have its own engineering entrance exam.

Get an Overview of the Engineering Admissions in India.

Admissions take place through an online counseling procedure that is conducted every year by the ‘Punjab Technical University’ or PTU into the colleges affiliated to the PTU Jalandhar, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar, Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) Ludhiana and Punjabi University, Patiala. All seats in the B.E/B.Tech courses are allotted through this online counseling procedure.

Architecture admissions also take place through this online counseling on the basis of the scores of students in the NATA (50% weightage) and their marks in the Class 12th examinations (50% weightage).

The Punjab Technical University conducts this online counseling procedure in 2 rounds. The first round is for all the seats that are available for admission in all B.Tech/B.E and B.Arch courses. If seats are left vacant after the 1st round, another round of counseling is conducted.

What percentage of seats is the counseling conducted for?

The counseling is conducted for all seats (100%) in Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges as well as for 2/3rd of the total seats in Private and Unaided engineering colleges in Punjab.

Keep in mind that counseling for the rest of the 1/3rd of seats in private colleges (Management Quota) is conducted separately by individual colleges. Details for allocation of seats under this category can be found on the websites of these institutions and private colleges.

Out of the total seats that are available for allotment in any Engineering college, 85% will be reserved for Punjab State Domiciles and 15% will be reserved for candidates from other states.

To know about the criteria to be considered as an eligible Punjab Domicile, please go through the following brochure (Page 25 & 26): http://ptu.ac.in/userfiles/file/Admission%202012-13/admission2013-14/Part-A.pdf

Keep in mind that different colleges/universities might have different rules regarding reservation and quotas. It is beneficial to go through their individual websites if you wish to apply through a reserved category.

What are the eligibility criteria to apply for the counseling?

For admission into the B.E/B.Tech courses, you would need to have passed your Class 12th or equivalent examinations with Physics, Math and either one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Computer Science as your main subjects.

You will also be eligible for B.E/B.Tech courses if you have completed a Diploma in Engineering from the Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Longowal.

Alternatively, candidates who have passed a 2 year certificate course from the ‘Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology’, Longowal are also eligible for B.E/B.Tech courses.

For admission into the B.Arch courses, you should have passed your Class 12th with Math as a compulsory subject. Candidates who are appearing for their Class 12th or equivalent examinations in the same year as the counseling are also eligible to apply. However, they should submit their final mark sheets at the time of document verification or their admission will be cancelled.

Additionally, you will only be eligible for admission if you have appeared for the JEE (Main) examination in the same year as the one you’re seeking admission in.

What is the counseling procedure?

Before you can register you will have to make the counseling fee payment. To make the payment, you should log on to the following website: www.ptuaccounts.ac.in.

At the above mentioned website, you will have to fill out the required information, create an account and make the payment. You can pay online using a credit/debit card or offline through an ‘E – Deposit Slip’.

To know about the procedure to make the payment in detail, please click on the following link: http://ptu.ac.in/userfiles/file/Admission%202012-13/admission2013-14/Part-F(2).pdf

Once you’ve made the payment, you will need to visit the PTU website and register yourself. Log on to the following website to register: http://www.ptuadmissions.nic.in/

Select your course, enter the necessary information including your JEE (Main) Roll Number and All  India Rank (AIR) etc.

In case you’re applying for the B.Arch course, you will need to enter the Roll Number you received after making your counseling fee payment.

Go through the eligibility criteria for reservation, and fill the online form. As a part of the form, you will need to create a password for your Login ID (JEE – Main/Architecture Roll Number).

Once you complete and submit the form, you will be able to make your choices from the ones that are visible. You will only be able to see the choices you’re eligible for (depends upon your reservation category etc.).

It can be helpful to go through the JEE (Main)/NATA rankings that were accepted by a particular college last year. This will give you an idea about the reputation of the college and whether you stand a genuine chance of getting in or not. The details of previous years’ rankings are mentioned on the website.

You will have to confirm/lock your choices in due time.

Once the allotment results are out, log on to the website and see whether you’ve been allotted a seat or not. In case you’ve been allotted a seat, you will see a ‘Provisional Allotment Letter’ from the institute/college online.

If you’re satisfied with the seat you’ve been allotted and do not wish to participate in the 2nd round of counseling, print this allotment letter and take it along with copies and originals of all your important documents (mentioned in Provisional Allotment Letter) and report to the institute/college in person. You will also need to submit the necessary admission fee to confirm your admission.

When you report to the college, your documents will be verified online. If your documents are found to be correct, then your admission will be confirmed online. You will then have to submit the fee deposit.

If you choose to upgrade your seat to a better college, you will have to visit the PTU website and apply for the 2nd counseling. Keep in mind that in case you are allotted a seat in the 2nd counseling, the seat allotted to you in the 1st counseling will automatically be cancelled.
