Admissions take place through an online counseling procedure that is conducted every year by the ‘Joint Admissions Committee’ or the JAC. Architecture admissions also take place through this online counseling on the basis of the scores of students in the JEE (Main) with Architecture Aptitude Test.

Through this counseling, you can get into any of the B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch courses offered by the following universities:

1. University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Punjab University, Chandigarh
2. PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh
3. Dr. S. S. Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Punjab University, Chandigarh
4. Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Chandigarh
5. University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Punjab University SSG Regional Centre, Hoshiarpur
6. Chandigarh College of Architecture, Chandigarh

The Joint Admissions Committee (JAC) conducts this counseling procedure in 4 rounds. The first 3 rounds are online rounds and the 4th round is a manual counseling round. Essentially, the 1st round is for all the seats available for allotment and the subsequent rounds are for the seats that are left vacant.

What percentage of seats is the counseling conducted for?

The counseling is conducted for all the seats in B.E/ B.Arch courses offered by the colleges mentioned above.

The amount of seats available for candidates from Chandigarh and for candidates from other States/UTs differs from institute to institute.

At the PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh, 50% seats are reserved for candidates who belong to Chandigarh under the State Quota and 50% seats are reserved for candidates from across the country.

At the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, out of the total 240 seats available for allotment, 204 seats are reserved for candidates who belong to Chandigarh under the State Quota and 36 seats are reserved for candidates from other states.

At the Chandigarh College of Architecture, out of the total 35 seats available for allotment, 28 seats are reserved for candidates who belong to Chandigarh under the State Quota, 5 seats are reserved for candidates from other states and 2 seats are reserved for candidates under the All India Quota (1 seat each for wards of Kashmiri Migrants and Kargil Martyrs).

To be considered as an eligible candidate under the State Quota (Chandigarh), you should have passed your Class 12th examination from a recognized institution in Chandigarh.

Keep in mind that different colleges/universities might have different rules regarding reservation and quotas. It is beneficial to go through their individual websites if you wish to apply through a reserved category.

What are the eligibility criteria to apply for the counseling?

To be eligible for the counseling (B.Tech and B.Arch), you should be an Indian National (except for Foreign Category seats).

For admission into the B.E/B.Tech courses, you would need to have passed your Class 12th or equivalent examinations with a minimum aggregate percentage of 60% (55% for SC/ST/PH candidates).

For all B.Tech/B.E courses, you should have qualified in the JEE (Main) examination in the same year as the counseling.

For admission into the B.Arch courses, you should have passed your Class 12th or equivalent examinations with Math and English as compulsory subjects. Additionally, you should have a minimum aggregate percentage of not less than 50%.

You will also be eligible for B.Arch courses if you have completed a 3 year Diploma (10+3) recognized by a State/Central Government with an aggregate percentage of not less than 50%.

For all B.Tech/B.E and B.Arch courses, you should have qualified in the JEE (Main) (with Architecture Aptitude Test for B.Arch) by scoring not less than 15% marks (10% for SC/ST/PH candidates).

Keep in mind that you will not be eligible for admission into a B.Arch course if you have a compartment in your Class 12th or Diploma examination, even if you manage to clear it and submit your final mark sheet before the date of counseling/reporting.

For all courses, you should have passed your Class 12th/Diploma not more than 2 years before you apply for counseling. For example, to apply for the counseling in 2013, you should have passed your Class 12th/Diploma examinations not before March/April 2011.

What is the counseling procedure?

Before you can register you will have to make the counseling fee payment. To make the payment, you should log on to the following website: www.chdenggadmissions.nic.in

At the above mentioned website, you will have to fill out the required information, create an account and make the payment. You can pay online using a credit/debit card or offline through an e – Challan.

If you’re paying through an e – Challan, then you will need to visit the bank and make the payment (after downloading the e – Challan form from the website). Once you’ve made the payment, visit the above mentioned website again and enter the details of your payment.

Keep in mind that online registrations are allowed only for the 1st round of counseling. A candidate who has not been registered for the 1st round will not be able to register for any of the subsequent rounds as well.

Once you complete and submit the form, you will be able to make your choices (in order of preference) from the ones that are visible. You will only be able to see the choices you’re eligible for (depends upon your reservation category etc.).

To aid you in this process of choosing colleges, an online ‘Mock Counseling’ will be conducted at regular intervals during the specified period to familiarize you with the online counseling procedure prior to the actual counseling.

The purpose of the mock counseling is to help you make appropriate choices with regards to institutions by giving you an idea about the seats that you might be offered.

You will have to confirm/lock your choices in due time.

Once the allotment results are out, log on to the website and see whether you’ve been allotted a seat or not (depends on your JEE – Main All India Rank). In case you’ve been allotted a seat, you will see an ‘Online Provisional Allotment Letter’ from the institute/college online.

All candidates who have been allotted a seat in the counseling will need to submit the admission fee as specified through credit/debit card or through an e – Challan. You will also have to specify whether you wish to participate in further rounds of counseling or not.

You can upgrade/change your college choices if you wish to participate in the subsequent rounds of counseling as and when they happen through the above mentioned website.

After the end of the 3rd round of counseling, you will have to report at the college/institute in which you’ve been allotted a seat with signed copies of the specified documents and a printed copy of the online provisional allotment letter.

You can only participate in the 4th round of Manual Counseling if you’ve not been allotted a seat in any of the 3 rounds of counseling or have made the fee deposit for the seat you’ve been allotted during counseling.

For the 4th round of counseling, you will be required to report in person at the Gymnasium Hall, Punjab University, Sector 14, Chandigarh on the specified date with originals and copies of all your documents.
