Engineering, Pharmacy and Medical based entrance procedure, applicable to colleges within Puducherry, primarily for students who belong to Puducherry.

CENTAC (Centralized Admission Committee) is a state level entrance procedure for students who are seeking admission into Engineering, Physiotherapy, Medical, Nursing, Medical Lab Technology and Pharmacy related courses in colleges and institutions situated within the state of Puducherry (Pondicherry).

CENTAC is NOT an entrance exam. CENTAC is just a State committee who coordinates all the admissions in colleges in Puducherry. It is their responsibility to ‘normalize’ the scores of candidates coming from different education boards. CENTAC provides a centralized admission process for students to take admission in colleges and institutes in Puducherry. Please keep in mind that you still have to be eligible for courses and rankings as per the norms and rules of CENTAC.

It is applicable for students who belong to Puducherry. Students who do not belong to Puducherry can apply for certain courses but only in the specified institutions and colleges. Most of the colleges and institutions within Puducherry admit students on the basis of their CENTAC  normalized scores. It is one of the most important State – Level entrance committees of Puducherry. It offers students with the opportunity to join the following courses:

What are the eligibility criteria?

For B.Tech Degree Course:

To be eligible for the CENTAC admission procedure, you should be an Indian Citizen. However, French Nationals residing in Puducherry and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be considered as eligible candidates for the CENTAC admission process.

Candidates from other States/other UTs can seek admission only to B.Tech degree course offered by Pondicherry Engineering College, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Karaikal on the basis of their JEE (Main) marks.

There is no lower age limit for the B.Tech course. But, no candidate should be more than 21 years of age as on the 1^st of July of the year of admission. For SC/ST candidates, this upper age limit is relaxed by three years.

You should have passed your Class 12^th examination / H.Sc examination (Academic / Vocational) conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tami Nadu or its equivalents.

Your main subjects in your 12^th class examination should include Physics, Math and any one of the following subjects: Chemistry/Bio-Technology/Computer Science/Biology (Botany & Zoology).

Your aggregate percentage in your three main subjects (PCM/PCB etc.) in your 12^th class exam or its equivalents should not be below 45%. The minimum percentage required for SC/ST and other reserved candidates is 40%.

Candidates who belong to Puducherry will be eligible if they completed the H.Sc Vocational course even with the following subject choices: Vocational subjects (Theory and Practical) and a related subject (Mathematics / Physics /Chemistry).

You are only allowed to apply for the CENTAC B.Tech entrance procedure twice in your lifetime (including the first application). SC/ST candidates are allowed to apply for the B.Tech course thrice in their lifetime.

For B.P.T and other Medical Degree Courses:

To be eligible for the CENTAC entrance procedure, you should be an Indian Citizen. However, French Nationals residing in Puducherry and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be considered as eligible candidates for the CENTAC admission process.

Candidates who do not belong to Puducherry can only seek admission in Mother Theresa Institute of Health Sciences, (MTPG&RIHS), provided they meet the eligibility criteria. They can only apply for the B.P.T. course.

Candidates (belonging to Puducherry) can only apply for the CENTAC entrance procedure once for the following courses: .B.B.S., B.A.M.S., B.D.S., B.V.Sc & A.H.

For the B.P.T. Degree Course and other related courses, you should not be less than 17 years of age as on the 31^st of December of the year of admission. Also, you should not be more than 25 years of age as on the 1^st of July of the year of admission. The upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

You should be not less than 17 years of age as on the 31^st of December of the year of admission for the following courses: B.B.S., B.A.M.S., B.D.S., B.V.Sc & A.H. There is no upper age limit for these courses.

You should have passed your Class 12^th examination / H.Sc (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tami Nadu or its equivalents.

Your main subjects in your 12^th class examination should include Physics, Chemistry, English and Biology or Biotechnology / Botany and Zoology.

Your aggregate percentage in your three main subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology/Botany and Zoology) in your 12^th class exam or its equivalents should not be below 50%. The minimum percentage required for SC/ST  and other reserved candidates is 40%.

You need to have English as one of your main subjects in your class 12^th or equivalent examinations. Also, you need to have passed your four main subjects
(English, Physics, Chemistry Biology/Biotechnology/ Botany and Zoology) individually.

For B.Sc Nursing Degree Course:

To be eligible for the CENTAC admission procedure, you should be an Indian Citizen. However, French Nationals residing in Puducherry and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be considered as eligible candidates for the CENTAC process.

Candidates who do not belong to Puducherry can only seek admission in Mother Theresa Institute of Health Sciences, (MTPG&RIHS), provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

For the B.Sc Nursing Degree Course, you should not be less than 17 years of age as on the 31^st of December of the year of admission. For SC/ST and other reserved candidates, this age limit is relaxed by three years. There is no upper age limit for the B.Sc Nursing Degree Course.

You should have passed your Class 12^th examination / H.Sc examination (Academic) conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tami Nadu or its equivalents.

For B.Sc  (M.L.T.) Degree Course:

Candidates who do not belong to Puducherry can only seek admission in Mother Theresa Institute of Health Sciences, (MTPG&RIHS), provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

There is no age limit for this course.

Candidates who belong to Puducherry can also join this course with the following subject choices: Physics, Foundation science and Medical Laboratory Assistance Course.

You need to have English as one of your main subjects in your class 12^th or equivalent examinations.

For B. Pharm. Degree Course:

To be eligible for the CENTAC admission procedure, you should be an Indian Citizen. However, French Nationals residing in Puducherry and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be considered as eligible candidates for the CENTAC admission process.

Candidates who do not belong to Puducherry can only seek admission in Mother Theresa Institute of Health Sciences, (MTPG&RIHS), provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

There is no age limit for this course.

How to apply?

You can only apply for the CENTAC admission process online.

The medical counseling/admission process will be conducted for 85% ‘State Quota’ seats in Government and Government Aided Medical and Dental Colleges in Puducherry. These seats are reserved only for Puducherry Domiciles.

Admissions into the remaining 15% seats in Government Medical and Dental colleges in Puducherry are conducted by the DGHS under the ‘All India Quota’ on the basis of AIPMT results through the following website: http://www.mcc.nic.in/mccres/HomePage.aspx#.

The engineering counseling is conducted for 85% seats in Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges in Puducherry. These seats are only reserved for Puducherry Domiciles.

Additionally, admissions into the remaining 15% seats are conducted by the CENTAC on the basis of the JEE (Main) marks of candidates. These seats are open to candidates from across the country. 

To open the application form, you will have to enter details describing whether or not you are from Puducherry and also make your course choice.

You will have to select the courses and colleges you wish to join in order of preference. Mark your choices/preferences based on two main factors:

1. The colleges and courses you seek.

2. The colleges and courses that are likely to admit you based on your rank. Go through the ranks that were admitted by a particular college last year for your course. You can obtain the ranks of last year from the counseling website.

Base your decision on these two factors and make multiple choices to ensure that you receive an admission. There is no limit on the number of choices you can submit.

It’s equally important to rank your choices correctly. The highest level choice with an available seat will be allotted to you. 

After you complete the application form, press the submit button.

Take a print out of your completed application form including your auto – generated application number as this is a mandatory requirement.

Please paste your passport size photograph on the printed application form and get it attested by a gazetted officer.

Sign the form in the specified area and also get the form signed by your parent/guardian.

Enclose all the necessary attested documents that you need to submit including your mark sheets, caste certificates etc. Fill in the check list as per your enclosures.

The printed online application (completed) with the enclosed certificates should be sent by post/courier (or delivered in person) along with a crossed Demand Draft drawn in favor of ‘The Convenor’, CENTAC  payable at Pondicherry at the following address:

What is the ranking based on?

The ranking for all Biology based courses (M.B.B.S./ B.A.M.S / B.D.S./ B.V.Sc & A.H./ B.P.T./B.Sc.(Nursing) / B.Sc. (MLT)) will be based on the total marks scored by you in the qualifying examination subject to normalization. All three subjects will be given equal weightage. If you have appeared for more than one optional subject, the subject in which you have scored higher marks will be considered.

For candidates who want to get into the B.Sc (MLT) course, the ranking will be determined on the basis of their marks in their prescribed subjects in the qualifying examination (Class 12^th/H.Sc.) subject to normalization. All three subjects will be given equal weightage. If you have appeared for more than one optional subject, the subject in which you have scored higher marks will be considered.

The ranking for the Engineering course (B.Tech) for candidates who have completed their H.Sc (Academic and Vocational) or its equivalents will be based on their marks in their qualifying examinations subject to normalization. All three subjects will be given equal weightage. If you have appeared for more than one optional subject, the subject in which you have scored higher marks will be considered.

For candidates who want to get into the Pharmacy course (B.Sc Pharm.), the ranking will be calculated by considering their marks in the H.Sc (Academic) or its equivalents in their three main subjects after normalization.
