Delhi Medical Admissions

Delhi does not have its own common entrance exam for Medical admissions. Each institution that offers Medicine as a course follows its own procedure for admitting students.

Essentially, you can pursue Medicine as a course in the following 3 ways:

1. Study Medicine/Dentistry at a college affiliated to the Delhi University.
2. Study Medicine/Dentistry at a college affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU).
3. Study Medicine/Dentistry at the Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR), which is affiliated to the Hamdard Unviersity.

The criteria and procedure for admissions will depend on the institution you wish to apply to.

Delhi University

Delhi University offers the MBBS course through the following colleges:

Lady Hardinge Medical College (only for girls)
Maulana Azad Medical College
University College of Medical Sciences

The BDS course is offered through the ‘Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences’.

Admissions into all of these colleges are conducted through a centralized counseling procedure conducted by the Medical Courses Admission Committee on the basis of the marks of the students in the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT).

Out of the total seats that are available for counseling through this procedure, 85% are reserved for candidates who have passed their Class 12th from the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi region.

The rest of the 15% seats are reserved for candidates from across the country under the ‘All India Quota’. Counseling for these 15% seats is conducted directly by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on the basis of AIPMT results through the following website: http://www.mcc.nic.in/mccres/HomePage.aspx#.

Reservations apply as per the ongoing norms of the Delhi Government.

A total of 23 seats in the MBBS courses will be filled up by the nominees of the Government of India under the ‘Central Pool Scheme’.

To be eligible for the counseling, you should have scored not less than 50% in the AIPMT (45% for PH candidates and 40% for SC/ST candidates).

Additionally, you should not be less than 17 years of age and not more than 25 years of age as on the 31st of December of the year of the counseling. The upper age limit is relaxed by up to 5 years for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

You will also need to meet all the eligibility criteria that apply to the AIPMT.

To participate in this counseling procedure, you will need to apply by purchasing the Information Bulletin along with the Application form from the below mentioned address through a Bank Draft/Banker’s Cheque of the specified amount:

Alternatively, you can procure the form and brochure from the FMS website: http://www.fmsc.ac.in/. Once you procure the form, fill it and send it through registered/speed post at the above address along with the Bank Draft/Banker’s Cheque of the specified amount and attested copies of all your documents. The process for filling the form and sending out the application begins in the month of December of the year prior to the year of the start of the course. 

Once you submit the application form, you will receive an ‘Admission Ticket’ for the counseling procedure in due time. You will be allowed to enter the counseling hall on the day of the counseling through this admission ticket.

On the day of the counseling, you will need to report at the specified venue with all your documents. You will be allowed to choose the college you wish to join from the ones that offer your course and are available for your rank at that point of time on the basis of your AIPMT score..

After you’ve been allotted a seat, you will be issued an admission letter and you will be asked to report to the college you’ve joined in due time so as to confirm your admission.

Subsequent rounds of counseling are conducted for vacant seats.

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU)

The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) offers the MBBS course through the following colleges:

Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital
PGIMER, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital
Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Dental College & Hospital
Army College of Medical Sciences (ACMS)
North Delhi Municipal Corporation Medical College, Hindu Rao Hospital

Students are admitted through counseling into colleges affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University on the basis of their rank in the ‘Common Entrance Test’ or CET which is conducted annually by the GGSIPU for almost all the courses offered at the university, including medical and dental courses.

Keep in mind that there will be different CETs for the MBBS and BDS course.

To appear for the CET, you will need to register online using the following website: http://www.digialm.com/EForms/configuredHtml/850/1082/application.html.

You will only be eligible to appear for the MBBS/BDS CET if you have passed your Class 12th or equivalent examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as your main subjects. Your aggregate percentage in these 3 subjects should be not less than 50% (40% for SC/ST candidates). Additionally, you should have passed each of these 3 subjects individually along with English.

To be eligible for admission in a college affiliated to the GGSIPU, you should not be less than 17 years of age as on the 31st of December of the year of admission.

To be eligible for admissions into the MBBS/BDS course, you should have scored not less than 50% in the CET (40% for SC/ST candidates).

Once you appear for the CET, wait for the results to come out. A counseling procedure will be conducted for admissions after the results are declared. You will need to reach the counseling venue along with attested copies and originals of all your documents on the day of the counseling.

Seats will be allotted on the basis of merit during the counseling. You will be allowed to choose the college you wish to join from the ones that offer your course and are available for your rank at that point of time on the basis of your CET score.

You will be required to report to the college you’ve joined in due time so as to confirm your admission.

A 2nd round of counseling will be conducted for vacant seats.

Out of the total seats that are available for allotment through this counseling procedure, 85% seats are reserved for candidates from the Delhi Region and 15% seats are reserved for candidates from across the country.

Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR)

Admissions into the Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR) are conducted by the institute through a counseling procedure on the basis of the scores of the students in the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT).

Out of the total seats that are available for counseling through this procedure, 15% are reserved as Management Quota seats, 43% are reserved for Muslim candidates and the rest are available for all eligible candidates.

To be eligible for admission, you should have scored not less than 50% in the AIPMT (45% for PH candidates and 40% for SC/ST candidates).

Additionally, you should not be less than 17 years of age as on the 31st of December of the year of the counseling.

You will also need to meet all the eligibility criteria that apply to the AIPMT.

To participate in the counseling, you will need to apply by purchasing the Information Bulletin along with the Application form from designated centers as mentioned on the following website: http://jamiahamdard.edu. Alternatively, you can download and print the application form from this website.

Once you procure the form, fill it and send it through registered/speed post along with a Demand Draft of the specified amount in favor of ‘Jamia Hamdard’, payable at New Delhi at the following address:
